How To Reserve Space
When severe weather is imminent, all pre-registered staff will receive e-mail notification that the Severe Weather Child Care RSVP line (681-RSVP) is open to receive calls.
Information will also be posted on the main
Severe Weather Child Care web page. After receipt of your pre-registration materials, the site coordinator where you have registered will send you a wallet card through campus mail that provides the RSVP phone number and the steps you need to take to reserve space for your child when severe weather is imminent. You can also obtain a copy of the wallet card from your site coordinator upon request at any time.
When calling the RSVP line (681-RSVP), please leave the following information to reserve space for your child:
- Your full name
- Site for which your children are pre-registered (Duke University Hospital -- Searle Center, Durham Regional Hospital, Duke Raleigh Hospital)
- Name(s) of the pre-registered child(ren) using the site
- Phone number where you can be reached
- Expected time of arrival and departure for your child(ren)
- Exact day(s) you expect to use the program while working
- Duke Unique ID number
You may leave a message up until 11 p.m. each night of the severe weather
period to reserve space for your child for the following day. Reservations will
not be accepted after 11 p.m. If no requests are made by eligible staff to
reserve space at one of the designated locations, child care will not be offered
at that location. One call per severe weather period will reserve space for the
time you indicate on your message. If there is an expectation of multiple days
for a severe weather period, please indicate the number of days of child care
you expect to use.
If space is not available at your site, you will receive a return phone call
so that you can secure other child care arrangements or be placed on a waiting
list for when space becomes available.
