Space at the locations is limited, so it will be necessary for eligible staff to pre-register for the program. Registration forms must be on file with the site coordinator at least one week before the activation of the Severe Weather & Emergency Conditions Policy before your child is allowed to attend. Pre-registration does not reserve space for your child(ren) during severe weather.

Update Your InformationParents are required to keep the pre-registration information current. If you pre-registered for the program more than 6 months ago, please complete the Bi-annual Update Form. You may also resubmit pre-registration forms in their entirety if numerous changes are necessary.

Manager PresentationManagers can download this PowerPoint presentation to assist them in notifying their staff about the Severe Weather Child Care program.

Severe Weather Child Care

Managed by Bright Horizons Family Solutions

Duke University Health System offers the Severe Weather Child Care program to provide eligible staff with quality and convenient child care when Duke's Severe Weather & Emergency Conditions Policy is activated. The benefit will help eligible staff manage the demands of work and family during periods of severe weather when regular child care arrangements may not be available.

Severe Weather Child Care will only be available when Duke's Severe Weather & Emergency Conditions Policy is activated and is not determined by the closing of area school districts or child care centers. When the policy is activated, Severe Weather Child Care services will be available Monday - Friday from 6 a.m. - 7:30 p.m. at three locations:

  • Duke University Hospital - Searle Center
  • Durham Regional Hospital - Private Dining Rooms
  • Duke Raleigh Hospital - Cafe
