Prepare an announcement for the Duke community, for the candidate's new
departmental colleagues, for the interview panel and/or search committee, for
key contacts and for other senior leaders to publicize the appointment. Setting
the tone for the arrival of a new member of the community is the first step in a
successful orientation and acclimation. Communication can be electronic, by mail
or in Duke publications. For most senior positions, publication should be
coordinated through the Office of Public Affairs, if appropriate. Always obtain
permission from the candidate to make a public announcement, so that he or she
has time to notify the supervisor of the position being left whether at Duke or
elsewhere.
