Are your computer labs or conference
rooms available for rent?
Yes. After we schedule our own workshops and make reservations
for Duke systems roll-out programs, we can then rent our
computer labs or conference rooms for other Duke entities.
Please see additional information at our Room
Reservations page.

Are
your facility and equipment accessible for persons with disabilities?
Our parking lot has reserved spaces and the sidewalk is
lowered. There is an automatic door opener at both of our
buildings. Restrooms and drinking fountains are compliant.
Computer lab workstations are at a fixed height. However,
we have an adjustable-height workstation, split keyboard,
and track-ball mouse available on request.
If you anticipate needing reasonable accommodations or
have other questions about physical access, please contact
L&OD at 613-7613 or hrlodregistration@duke.edu
prior to your program.

Whom is your catalog mailed
to? The catalog you sent to me has the wrong address on it
(my former department forwarded it to me). Would you please
update this address?
Our catalog is mailed to employees at level 06 and above
using information collected from Payroll records approximately
one month prior to the mailing. Students, casual labor,
and temporary employees are not included in the mailing.
We are not able to update the address list derived from
Payroll. Payroll's information was entered directly from
hiring paperwork generated by the employee's department.
Department, location, and box number information must be
in very specific fields on each employee's personnel data
form. If addressing is incorrect, please check with your
department payroll clerk or business office to see what
is on record. The payroll clerk can either make corrections,
or if the department record is already correct, he or she
can forward a copy to Payroll (via Benefits) with a request
that they update their records.
For staff who are located at the American Tobacco Campus,
or are part of the University side of Duke or the Medical
Center (DUMC), the Duke Box Number is the most
important part of your address. Please note this is not
a "P.O." box number and should not be listed as
such. "P.O." indicates the U.S. Post
Office.
The Duke Box Number is the most important information used
by Duke Mail Services for sorting. Without it, mail is put
in a bin for researching and re-sorting as time permits.
If other parts of the address are incomplete or incorrect,
the mail may be undeliverable.
If you did not receive our catalog or need extra copies,
please call us at 613–7600, and we will gladly send
what you need. You may also print our catalog from the link on our home page.

There is a workshop listed
in your catalog at one price but listed at your website at
a different price. Which is correct?
We make every effort to thoroughly proofread content published
in our catalog and at our website. Occasionally, however,
erroneous information may be listed. We will promptly correct
any errors at our website as soon as they are detected.
However, the cost of mailing postcards to correct any errors
in our catalog is prohibitive. Our workshop pricing generally
follows this structure:
| Computer
Technology Workshops |
| 2 hour power sessions |
$39 |
| 1/2 day |
|
| 1 day |
|
1 1/2 days |
$199 |
| 2 days |
|
| 3 days |
|
| Management
and Work Skills Development Workshops |
| 1/2 day |
$55 |
| 1 day |
$105 |
Not all workshops fit this structure. Some variables affecting
price include cost of books, manuals and other training
materials; length of the workshop; and occasionally fees
charged by external contractors. Please contact us if you
have any questions about pricing, dates, times, etc.: 613–7600
or 613–7613.

What happens if Duke declares a Severe
Weather day, and I am registered for a workshop
that day? What if my department has reserved a room at your
location, and Duke declares a Severe Weather day?
If Duke declares a Severe Weather day, our workshops are
automatically cancelled and our offices, computer labs and
conference rooms at 402 and 406 Oregon Street will be closed.
Our functions are considered non-essential in weather emergencies.
To learn if Duke has declared a Severe Weather day, please call the Duke Information Line at 684-4636 . For
more questions about Duke's Severe Weather Policy, please
see the information at:
http://www.hr.duke.edu/weather/
Please note that media announcements about "classes
at Duke" apply only to graduate and undergraduate classes,
not to workshops for employees held at L&OD. The relevant
policy for our location is the Severe Weather Policy.
Even if Duke does not declare a weather emergency, variable
weather conditions in the area may prevent some of our staff
from coming in. Some workshops or possibly our entire facility
may end up being closed. If we close, our recorded telephone
message will be updated - please call 613–7613 after
7:30 AM to hear the recording. If there is a standard
greeting with no mention of weather, then our facility will
be open. Even so, specific workshops may not run - feel
free to call and check about your workshop. (Our staff may
be delayed or may be trying to determine workshop status,
but we will share as much as we know.) Workshop
participants unable to attend because of variable weather
conditions, even though Duke may officially remain open,
will not be penalized.
If our facility is closed due to severe weather, we will
promptly reschedule any cancelled workshops and room reservations.
We will call registered workshop participants to check availability
for future sessions and to reschedule. No workshop fees
or room reservation fees will be charged for sessions scheduled
on Severe Weather Days.
