Nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) is used to gradually wean a smoker from nicotine dependence.
This reduces withdrawal symptoms associated with smoking cessation thus helping resist the urge
to smoke cigarettes.
Even though NRT aides are available over-the-counter, it is advisable to check with
your physician before use. Tobacco should not be used while on nicotine replacement therapy because NRT aides contain some nicotine.
Nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) in the form of a patch, gum or lozenge, is available free of charge to
Duke employees (including Durham Regional and Duke Health Raleigh) insured under a Duke Health plan and their
covered adult dependents (no children). NRT is available at the Duke South pharmacy.
Nicotine replacement
therapy is only available if used in conjunction with one of the LIVE FOR LIFE
tobacco cessation programs.

Receiving the Discount
After registering for a LIVE FOR LIFE smoking cessation program, Duke
employees should report to the Duke Hospital Outpatient Pharmacy, located on the
first floor of Duke South Clinic across from the gift shop, to receive this
special discount. Employees at Durham Regional Hospital and Duke Raleigh
Hospital may receive discounted NRT aids either by visiting the Duke Hospital
Outpatient Pharmacy or by mail order from the Duke South pharmacy by calling
(919) 684-2908. Note: It may take up to 48 hours to become eligible for the discount after registering.
