Smoking Cessation Resources Duke offers tobacco cessation programs and resources to all benefit eligible employees. In addition to the free support programs through LIVE for LIFE, Duke offers free prescription and over-the-counter tobacco cessation aids to all employees using a Duke health plan and any adult dependents on that plan.

Tips to Quit
You can find tips on how to quit and stay quit at the Tips to Quit page.

Join thousands of smokers pledging to quit for at least one day on Thursday, November 20, the American Cancer Society's Great American Smokeout 2008!

During the week of the Great American Smokeout, LIVE FOR LIFE coaches will be on hand to speak with employees about how to quit, how to help others quit, and how to find a program that best fits their needs.

Information Tables, "Cold Turkey" Raffle

Stop by the information tables to get information on preparing to quit. You can also sign-up for a LIFE for LIVE tobacco cessation support program. Information tables will be available November 18-20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Duke Hospital Atrium Cafeteria, the Duke Clinic Food Court, and the Durham Regional Cafeteria.

Also in celebration of the Great American Smokeout you can enter a raffle to win a "Cold Turkey" (actually it's a frozen turkey).

There's Never Been a Better Time to Quit!

Here's why:

  1. Quitting smoking is the best single thing you can do for your health, and for the health of those around you. Health benefits begin immediately after quitting.

  2. We know what helps smokers quit, and proven programs and treatments are available.

  3. Free tobacco cessation programs and resources are available through LIVE FOR LIFE.

  4. Free prescription stop-smoking aids or nicotine replacement therapies are available for all Duke employees who are using a Duke health plan, as well as their adult dependents on their plan.

  5. You can save money and improve your health. A one pack a day smoker spends over $1200 on cigarettes per year.

  6. Quit with others: GASO IS THE WHOLE COUNTRY'S QUIT DATE!
