www.stress.org web site for The American Institute of Stress has a variety of information including a newsletter.

www.mindtools.com/smpage.html provides information on understanding stress and covers several tools for managing stress in depth.

Domestic Violence

CHANGE: A counseling program that helps individuals learn alternatives to abusive or controlling behaviors. Part of Family Counseling Service, 403-3534

Domestic Violence Crisis Line: Durham County 688-2372, Orange County 929-7122, Wake County 828-7740 and national 800-799-7233.

Rape Crisis of Durham Hotline: 401-9295

Duke Health and Fitness Center: (Duke Center for Living Campus) Health Psychology Program offers a) several in-depth courses on stress management, b) Breathing and Relaxation class, c) Mindfulness Meditation class. Located at the corner of Morreene and Erwin Roads, 660-6600.

Family Counseling Service of Durham: Provides individual, couple and family counseling. Financial assistance available. Also provides educational programs to the community. Located at 3308F Chapel Hill Boulevard, 403-3534.

LifeSkills: Provides training in communication and relationship building skills. Founded by Duke faculty members Redford and Virginia Williams, 286-4566.

Pastoral Services: Pastors are available to talk or pray with Duke employees. Several services and times of reflection are also available. All are in the in the 6th floor Chapel, Duke North. Chapel Services are held Sunday 10:30 AM. Noon prayers are held at 12 noon Monday through Friday in the 6th floor Chapel. Catholic Mass is held Wednesday 12:30. Catholic Communion is held Monday, Tuesday and Thursday at 12:30. For more information call 684-3586.

Personal Assistance Service: Confidential counseling. PAS counselors are an excellent resource for relationship difficulties, financial and legal issues, drug or alcohol problems, work conflicts, feelings of depression, stress, or anxiousness. Service is free to Duke employees and their families. Located in the First Union Building, 416-1727, www.hr.duke.edu (click on departments).

Teer House Community Education Programs: Holds classes and support groups on a wide variety of topics. Call 477-2644 to get on the mailing list or for more information.

Duke Health and Fitness Center offers several relaxation classes. Non-members can attend classes for a fee, 660-6660.

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Program, Duke Center for Integrative Medicine, offers an eight-week program in Mindfulness Meditation. For more information, call 660-6745.

Jon Seskevitch, RN is the Duke stress management nurse for patients and nursing staff, 681-3989, 970-1259 (pager). Offers a guided relaxation session on Tuesdays in the Duke North 6th floor chapel, 12:30 to 12:50.
