The School Age Directory lists area providers available to provide before and after
school care, care during intersessions for year-round schoolagers, drop-in care, and care
on teacher work days. Private child care providers and after school programs administered
by the Durham Public Schools are licensed and regulated* by the state of North Carolina.
Other programs listed are not licensed by the state, but are regulated by the entity that
adminsters them.

*All of the private child care providers
and after school programs adminiseterd by the Durham Public Schools are regulated by the
Division of Child Development of the State of North Carolina. Child care is
rated by stars, with 5 stars indicating the highest of quality. Also look for
child care homes accredited by NAFCC (National Association of Family Child
Care), as these homes meet even higher standards of care. To obtain more
information on each program, including complaints made against and compliance
visit outcomes, and a detailed description of the NC Star Rating system, go to
www.ncchildcare.net.
