First Time Supervisor Program

How to Apply

  1. Review all materials in the nomination packet (nomination form, application for nominee, program overview and FAQs).

  2. Discuss your desire to nominate your staff member for the program with your manager first, then if agreed, with your staff member. Please also begin considering a suggested mentor from your area to participate in the program with your staff member. Nominations are not complete without a mentor suggestion.

  3. If the staff member is in agreement, submit the completed nomination packet (including the application from the staff member and your nomination form) to your department/unit HR representative.

  4. If you are unsure of the appropriate HR representative for your area, please contact Staff and Labor/HR at 684-2808 or 684-5557. Your HR representative will then forward the packet to PDI for consideration.

  5. After the Professional Development Institute receives the completed nomination, the nominee will be contacted to attend a mandatory information meeting to review program requirements.

  6. After the initial screening of the nomination by Institute staff, the nominee may be scheduled to be interviewed by the program Selection Committee for consideration for admission into the program. You and your nominee will be notified of the scheduled interview.

  7. If the nominee is selected to participate in the program, the Institute will provide you with additional information regarding dates, times, and locations of classes, etc. for scheduling purposes. Classes begin in late February 2010 with anticipated graduation in December 2010.

For more information, please contact the Professional Development Institute at 684-5406 or by e-mail at pdi@mc.duke.edu.
