Ernest "D.J." Burroughs believes the experience and knowledge he's gaining in the PDI Office Staff Development classes will help him succeed.

Office Staff Development Program

Programs provided by Duke's Professional Development Institute focus on developing clerical office management skills and capabilities of Duke staff to help them qualify for a variety of career opportunities at Duke.

Target Audience

Duke staff currently employed in level 6 (university) and B3 (health system) administrative and office support positions.

Goal

To help participants develop the skills and knowledge they need to qualify for career advancement opportunities at Duke.

Program Features

  • Skill training and internship opportunities will take place at Duke.
  • Participants will be paid for up to 10 hours of onsite training per week. (Half of the training will be paid by the department, and half of the training will be paid by the Professional Development Institute).
  • Employing departments of participants actively support training and coaching of participants.
  • Participants will be matched with mentors who will provide support throughout the program. Participants will commit to a retention agreement of 18 months of post-graduation employment at Duke.
