Office Staff Development Program
Internship FAQ
How many hours per week must a department commit to the PDI Internship and what will it cost the department?
All internships are scheduled during regular work hours as part of the second phase of the program. Participants must work 5 hours per week for a
24-week period. During the internship participants will be released from their regular work schedule to work in your department. The participant's primary department and the Professional Development Institute cover the salary costs jointly.
What kind of tasks can the intern perform?
The internship experience provides an opportunity for participants to participate in activities that reinforce course work such as database input, computer work, organizing special projects, Duke Financial systems. Past internship projects have included data entry, organizing special events, setting up new office procedures, and retail sales.
Will the manager be informed of a participant's progress in the internship?
It is important for managers to actively support training and coaching of their staff who participate. Professional development specialists will facilitate ongoing discussions and feedback with managers to ensure a participant's success in the internship. The PDI also encourages participants and managers to discuss the internship experience.
