Traditionally, businesses have measured success in terms of finances only. But there is more to success than just finances.
To reflect this, DUHS is now measuring its success in four key areas:
The current goals for Duke University Health System are:
- Work Culture - Continuously improve the work culture consistent with the DUHS value proposition.
- Customer Service - Continuously improve customer service for both internal and external customers.
- Clinical Quality & Internal Business - Foster enhanced clinical care and new program development to improve quality, patient safety, and efficiency.
- Finances - Generate sufficient resources to reinvest in people, technology, buildings, research, and education.
To ensure that the contributions of each entity and department throughout DUHS are contributing to the overall mission of the Health System, each will establish goals in these four areas that link or "align" with the Health System goals.
This alignment will help individuals better understand how what they do every day helps contribute to the success of DUHS. It will also help us measure whether we are achieving our goals individually and collectively. The Health System will use a tool called the
balanced scorecard to track and measure our progress toward these goals.
