Duke Announces New Wireless (Cellular) Phone Plans
DURHAM, N.C. - Duke University's Office of Information Technology (OIT) has announced new wireless (cellular) calling plans offering improved affordability and choice exclusively for faculty, staff and students.
Beginning June 1, employees with departmental-use wireless phones will be able to access eight new plans through ALLTEL and six new plans through Verizon Wireless. Students will also be eligible for these plans, with special pricing from $17/month for 150 minutes to $127/month for 2,500 minutes. These are savings over the old Duke plan, which provided seven offerings through ALLTEL.
Employees not currently using the Duke calling plan for their personal
wireless needs get a 15 percent discount on Verizon Wireless plans of $35 or
more per month
and a ten percent discount from ALLTEL when joining the Duke plan; information
on personal use offerings is available at the
OIT Telecommunications Web Site.
Voice mail, caller ID, three-way calling, no answer transfer, call forwarding/waiting, no contract (ALLTEL only), and the convenience of Duke billing are features included in the new Duke plans. Text messaging, Web access, walkie-talkie and BlackBerry® are available for additional fees.
A transition team from OIT has been working with university and health system business managers to help them select the new plan that fits the specific service and average monthly minutes needs for each of their department's wireless users currently using the old Duke ALLTEL plan. In addition, OIT
is helping faculty, staff and students not on the Duke plan who are using their
procurement cards to pay for wireless service transition over to the appropriate
new plan.
