Transition to New Duke Temporary Service
Duke began transitioning to a new temporary staffing program in September to serve the diverse needs across the University and Health System.
The new Duke Temporary Service (DTS) will consolidate contracts for external temporary staffing agencies to one primary supplier and a select group of secondary suppliers. Duke Temporary Service has been enhanced to offer comprehensive staffing solutions, improved support, seamless service, and better rates.
Consolidating temporary staffing contracts enable Duke to leverage its purchasing for significantly better rates. The change is expected to reduce department costs for temporary staffing by more than $2 million annually.
As of September 3, all new requests for temporary staffing in clerical, light
industrial, accounting, and professional positions should be placed through DTS
by completing and faxing an order form to DTS at 684-2736. The form can be found
on the DTS Web site.
The order will be filled either through Duke Temporary Service's pool of more than 300 employees or through the DTS approved network of suppliers, including Kelly Services and a select group of secondary vendors.
Benefits include a streamlined process for ordering temporary help, cost management through a streamlined ordering process, reduced bill rates, consistent and consolidated invoicing, pre-employment background checks, and provision of Duke orientation, parking permits, and ID badges.
The transition of current temporary employees in clerical, light industrial, accounting, and professional positions began in September and will be effective October 14. The transition for information technology, research, and non-nursing clinical positions will take place later this fall. Consultants or independent contractors coordinated through Procurement and existing nursing contracts will continue to be managed under other contractual arrangements.
If you have questions about DTS or the transition process, please visit the
DTS Web site. Or you can call DTS at 681-3132 for more information.
