Learn to "Be Active" During National Employee Health and Fitness Week
Did you know that obesity is currently the nation's number one preventable fatal disease? Sixty percent of
American adults do not get the recommended 30 minutes of physical activity a day and 25 percent of American adults
are not physically active at all.
LIVE FOR LIFE, Duke's employee health promotion program, is challenging Duke employees to take a pledge to
"Be Active" and get on the path to good health during National Employee Health and Fitness Week from May 16 - 20.
Duke faculty and staff can learn how to stay healthy and prevent weight gain by making small changes in their lives,
such as walking an extra 2,000 steps (one mile) and eating 100 fewer calories each day.
LIVE FOR LIFE will be visiting locations throughout Duke during the week to promote the benefits of physical
activity and encourage Duke faculty and staff to take a pledge to "Be Active" on a daily basis. In addition, an
educational brochure will be distributed through campus mail that provides tips about incorporating the right amount
of physical activity and calories in your day to achieve your health goals. For more information about how LIVE FOR
LIFE can help you achieve your goals, call 684-3136 (option 1) or visit the
LIVE FOR LIFE Web Site.
