Duke Recognized for Dedication to Employee Wellness
Duke Human Resources received the 2005 NC Prevention Performance Award for Business Excellence at the N.C. Prevention Partners
annual meeting on June 15, 2005.
The award recognizes LIVE FOR LIFE, Duke's employee health promotion program, for its commitment to developing and implementing
preventive health opportunities in the areas of tobacco use prevention, nutrition, and physical activity. In winning this award,
Duke was recognized as an organization that uses innovative strategies to promote prevention practices and has demonstrated clear
outcomes of prevention efforts.
In assessing program results, LIVE FOR LIFE compared the health care cost among high-risk individuals who participated in its
prevention programs to those who did not. "Individuals who took steps to practice prevention through one of our fitness or
wellness programs had lower health care costs in 9 of 10 risk factors," said Julie Joyner, manager of LIVE FOR LIFE.
LIVE FOR LIFE offers a variety of wellness opportunities, such as health assessments and education, fitness activities, and
nutrition activities to help eligible faculty, staff and family members reach their health and fitness goals. To learn about
the services that can help you maximize your health, call LIVE FOR LIFE at 684-3136 (Option 1) or visit the
LIVE FOR LIFE Web Site.
