Six Duke employees have been rewarded for their Blue Devil football knowledge as part of Working@Duke’s second football trivia contest.

Faculty and staff submitted answers online to 10 questions about Duke football history and its players and coaches. Winners were randomly selected from a pool of entrants who got the most questions right. None of the winners answered all 10 questions correctly, but three had nine correct answers.

Of the winners, two received clean, game-worn jerseys worn last year by linebacker Ned Smith and offensive lineman Brian Moore. Four others received a mini football autographed by football head coach David Cutcliffe.

Roxanne Foshee, a trivia winner and senior IT analyst with Financial Services, said she found answers through GoDuke.com. She had trouble with one question about top-ranked football teams playing at Wallace Wade Stadium, though.

“I had to Google it several different ways to figure it out,” she said. “I wound up getting the answer from GoDuke.com, but I had to spend time thinking of how to best phrase my search.”

Foshee, a season ticket holder, received a game-worn jersey, which she plans to wear to football games this season.

The most commonly missed question was about the attendance from last year’s season opener against University of Richmond. Foshee had the only submission correctly answering that 33,011 fans attended the game. Entrants also incorrectly answered a question about the location of a bust of former Duke football coach Wallace Wade, one which sits outside Duke's Wallace Wade Stadium and another at the University of Alabama's Bryant-Denny Stadium. Many submissions only listed the name of the the Alabama school, not the name of the stadium.

Employees can still join in the Blue Devil football spirit with free tickets to the Sept. 4 opening game against Elon University at Wallace Wade Stadium. Faculty and staff can register for the Employee Kick-Off Celebration until noon Saturday.

Answer: 33,941

Answer: University of Alabama’s Bryant–Denny Stadium.

4. Only three Duke players have amassed more than 1,000 receiving yards in a season – one is currently on the team. Name that player.
Answer: Donovan Varner

5. How many fans came to see last year’s home opener against the University of Richmond?
Answer: 33,011

6. When Alabama plays at Duke Sept. 18, they could be the third football team to play in Durham as the top-ranked team in country. Who are the other two teams?
Answer: University of Pittsburgh (1937) and Florida State University (1993).

7. What Duke coach played in both the Canadian Football League and Arena Football League?
Answer: Derek Jones
