Duke Named Among Top Family-Friendly Companies
Duke University and Health System has been named as one of the top family-friendly workplaces in North Carolina by Carolina Parent magazine.
The magazine published its fourth annual family-friendly list in its September issue. The editors of Carolina Parent recognized Duke for its commitment to helping employees balance the demands of work and family life.
"Duke provides basic benefits but also goes above and beyond when it comes to helping employees balance work and family responsibilities," wrote the editors of Carolina Parent. "It offers an on-site child-care center, a child-care consultant for individual family needs, a home child-care resource, a child-care scholarship fund and an elder-care consultant for individual family needs."

Jolene Nagel, head coach of Duke's women's volleyball team, is one of many at Duke who takes advantage of The Care Connection, which assists employees in their search for the most suitable care for their children, including Duke's on-campus daycare center, Duke Children's Campus.
"Having my children enrolled in daycare at Duke Children's Campus is convenient and comforting as a working parent," Nagel said. "Because of the location, I can drop my children off later, which allows me to spend more time with them, and it is comforting to know that I can be by their side at a moment's notice. The staff is well trained and takes a sincere interest in the children. I feel very lucky to work for an organization that offers on-site daycare to its employees."
Duke employee wellness program, called LIVE FOR LIFE, was recognized nationally last November as one of America's Healthiest Companies by the Wellness Councils of America. The employee wellness program offers fitness opportunities, health screenings, stress management and weight-loss programs, and a walk/run club.
