Duke Employees Challenged to Move for a Million Minutes
To support faculty and staff in their effort to lose weight and improve fitness habits, LIVE FOR LIFE is offering a new program
"Duke On the Move - The Million Minute Challenge," that will begin January 9, 2006. With the "Million Minute Challenge," Duke is
challenging employees to work together to accumulate one million minutes of exercise in 12 weeks.
In 2005, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) came out with new guidelines for Americans on physical activity. The
guidelines state that for weight loss and maintenance, adults should engage in 60 to 90 minutes of moderate- to vigorous-intensity
physical activity on most days of the week.
Register to participate in the "Million Minute Challenge" and find out how you can reach your health goals and help Duke achieve one
million minutes of exercise.
- Have fun with co-workers while getting fit
- Move more, reduce stress and burn calories with group walking opportunities
- Gain knowledge on lifetime activities you can enjoy
- Receive online fitness resources to report your exercising minutes and see Duke's progress towards the goal of one million minutes
- "Report your minutes" online and be entered into a drawing for multiple prizes. Every time you accumulate and report 100 minutes of exercise, your name will be entered into a drawing for gift certificates to local restaurants, an I-Pod Shuffle, free fitness memberships, a spa package, and much more.
If you are interested in participating in "Duke On the Move," registration for the program is available through January 9, 2006.
