Parents working at Duke now have even more opportunities for child care with the
expansion of the Duke Child Care Partnership (DCCP) to include 20 area child care facilities.
The DCCP facilities currently have 19 vacancies for infants, 20 vacancies for 1- and 2-year-olds, and more than 60 vacancies
for children up to 4-years-old. When it was created in 2003, DCCP only included 11 facilities. Today, nearly 300 Duke
families have taken advantage of the DCCP to enroll their children in one of the 20 child care facilities.

Duke Named Among Top Family-Friendly Employers
For the fourth consecutive year, Duke University and Health System has been named as one of the top family-friendly
workplaces in North Carolina by Carolina Parent magazine.
The magazine published its seventh annual family-friendly list in its September issue.
"The reputation of Duke's benefits package is well known - and well deserved," wrote the editors for Carolina Parent.
"Outstanding insurance options and superior retirement contributions top the list of sought-after benefits."
Among the family-friendly programs Duke enhanced in the last year was the expansion of the Duke Child Care Partnership,
which provides priority placement at 20 area child care centers for parents at Duke. The partnership was created in 2003
as part of a $200,000 grant from Duke to the Child Care Services Association (CCSA) to improve the quality of child care
in the community and improve access to these centers for those at Duke. (See sidebar for more information about the partnership.)
Tara Mann, a pathologist assistant at Duke University Hospital, was among the nearly 300 families at Duke who took advantage
of the expanded Duke Child Care Partnership.
"The Duke Child Care Partnership gave me a starting place when I virtually had no knowledge of area child care centers," said
Mann. "And because I am a Duke employee, I was bumped up on the waitlist for our top choices. Without this program, I would
not have had as many choices that were as highly rated or had the availability to accept my son. It makes me want to stay at
Duke knowing Duke is looking out for those of us with child care needs."
Other family-friendly programs introduced by Duke in the last year included a severe weather child care program for health
system staff and a 24-hour health care advice line for Duke health plan members.
"We are proud to be recognized again by Carolina Parent as one of North Carolina's top family-friendly employers," said Clint
Davidson, vice president of Human Resources. "It is an honor to receive this accolade when compared to the many public and
private employers across the state. While we have been named to this prestigious list for several consecutive years, we
continue to improve existing programs or introduce new ones to make Duke a more supportive place for those balancing the
responsibilities of work and family."
With more than 27,000 faculty and staff, Duke is the largest private employer
in the Triangle. For more information about Duke's family-friendly programs,
