Duke is recognizing the entire Medical Center Library and Archives staff for their outstanding accomplishment in handling a major task in record time, with exemplary cooperation and teamwork. The project was clearing out the top floor of the Library to make room for staff offices of Medical Oncology in a period of four short months, a project that normally would take between 12 and 24 months to plan and implement.
Accomplishing this huge task involved everyone from the associate dean and the department heads to the library assistants who work with patrons. Staff learned new skills, developed new approaches, solved problems and did the work with speed and accuracy. They communicated to everyone impacted by the project, accepted greater responsibility and accountability, and clearly placed team goals above their own personal needs and preferences, thereby demonstrating highly effective team behaviors, high value and commitment to Duke.
