Blow the Whistle on Asthma Walk

The 2008 Blow the Whistle on Asthma Walk will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2008 at the Centennial Campus at North Carolina State University in Raleigh to raise money and awareness for fighting Asthma as well as other pulmonary diseases. Registration begins at 8:30 am and the walk is at 10:00.

The walk (3.2 miles) is sponsored by the American Lung Association of North Carolina. Dr. Bill Fulkerson, Pulmonologist and Chief Executive Officer of Duke University Hospital, serves as the Medical Chair for the event.

All Duke employees, as well as their friends and family, are invited to participate in this fund raising opportunity. Participation and support of the Blow the Whistle on Asthma initiative is a positive way of fulfilling the mission of Duke University Health System, which is to help people in their pursuit of good health and safety.

Over 2,000 walkers and contributors are expected.

The American Lung Association is dedicated to reaching communities and individuals across the state of North Carolina with a variety of educational and support programs for children and adults. These programs focus on the areas of asthma, tobacco control, and environmental health. Support is also offered for people who suffer from many lung diseases.

Asthma affects over 1 in 4 people in America, over 6 million of whom are children. In North Carolina alone, experts believe that over 808,000 people suffer from the disease. Asthma is also a leading cause of nationwide school absenteeism.

For more information, please visit the American Lung Association of North Carolina web site or call Sarah Woodard (684-5680) or Suzy Johnson (668-3466), Co-Chairs for the walk.
