START! Walking April 25
This is an invitation to wear sneakers to work.
To help combat the growing rise of physical inactivity, the American Heart Association is teaming up with corporate America to get employees moving. On April 25, they will launch Start!, a new national movement that encourages employees to live longer, stronger lives through a comprehensive walking and nutrition program.
"The focus of the campaign is simple: Walk more. Eat well. Live longer," says Victor J. Dzau, M.D., chancellor for health affairs at Duke and chairman of the Triangle Start! Chapter.
To celebrate the launch of the campaign, and to show a commitment to a healthy lifestyle, Dzau is inviting all Duke Medicine employees to wear sneakers or walking shoes to work on April 25, and to join in a noon-time walk.
"Inactivity is an epidemic in the U.S.," says Dzau. "Duke has offered a walking program through LIVE FOR LIFE for many years, but there is always more that can be done. Duke Medicine is delighted to be partnering with the AHA not only to help our own employees live healthier lives, but to encourage other employers in the Triangle to make similar commitments to their employees."
