Duke Farmers Market to Open with a Bang
Celebrate the opening of the seventh season of the Duke Farmers' Market on Friday, April 13, with live music,
good food and a 13-foot-tall, 15-foot-long shopping cart. The Got to be NC Big Cart, a shopping cart with a
Chevrolet 396 V-8 engine, will be on display at the market, which will be open from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
Representatives from Got
to Be NC — part of the North Carolina Department of Agriculture's Goodness
Grows in North Carolina program — will hold an exhibit with information and free
goodies including a growing season chart, nutrition information and recipes,
roadside produce stand directories, a guide to pick-your-own strawberry farms,
and a raffle for a cooler full of delicious North Carolina products. A
LIVE FOR LIFE table will also have
information about nutrition-related programs and services, along with
seasonal recipes.
If you're tired of the same old lunch choices, local restaurants
The Picnic Basket and
Green Tango, will be at the market to sell freshly made, healthy lunches.
The market is located in front of the Medical Center Bookstore, on the walkway between Duke Hospital and the
Duke Clinics (map/directions). It
will be held every Friday from April 13 through June, and every other Friday
from July through September. For more information, visit the
Farmers' Market web site.
