Duke Committed to Supporting Internship Program for Minority Students
Duke University has been a corporate sponsor of the INROADS internship program since 1998 as part of its commitment to diversity and dedication to recruiting and retaining talented minorities to Duke. This summer, three students participated in the INROADS program at Duke.
INROADS is an internship program designed to develop and place talented minority youth in business and industry and prepare them for corporate and community leadership. The INROADS program helps interns develop the skills and behaviors that are necessary to increase their knowledge about the world of work.
Following the completion of the internship, the program encourages departments to hire an employee who has experience within the department and the organization. This has proven to be a positive situation in the past for both Duke and INROADS, with four previous INROADS interns at Duke having been hired into full-time positions.
This summer, Denise Williams, Jeff Cox and Amanda Banks participated in the INROADS program by interning in the Office of Information Technology (OIT) at Duke. The goal is to have these students return next summer to continue their internships with OIT.
In 2003, Duke was honored with the Corporate Spirit Award at the INROADS "Partners In A Shared Vision" award ceremony. The Corporate Spirit Award recognizes the corporate partner who displays an overwhelming amount of enthusiasm, commitment, and dedication to the overall mission of INROADS.
Duke is looking for additional departments to sponsor interns for 2007. If a department is interested in learning more about the INROADS program, please contact Monica Ziegler by phone at 684-5681 or by email at
monica.ziegler@duke.edu.
