Holiday Parties Set for Early December
Forget about the Grinch and get in the holiday spirit by attending one of Duke's holiday parties.
A variety of festive music will be provided during the parties. Anyone brave enough to take part in karaoke has
the chance to win a poinsettia. Guests will also have the opportunity to dance, play games and win prizes.
As part of the celebrations, each year Duke provides a holiday suncatcher to thank staff for their contributions
and service. This year's suncatcher pays tribute to the Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University, which opened
last October as the first stand-alone museum on Duke's campus in 80 years.
This annual gift for full-time Duke staff has become a collector's item for many across the institution. A collection
of these glass decorations from previous years can be found on the windows of many offices. In the past, the keepsake
has featured the Duke Chapel, Duke Hospital, Sarah P. Duke Gardens, the Davison Building, and holiday greetings of peace.
The 2006 suncatcher will be distributed through Staff & Family Programs to department heads and managers Nov.
27-30. Department heads and managers who have not received suncatchers for their department by Dec. 7 should
call one of the following, based on their location:
- Duke University (including School of Medicine, School of Nursing, DCRI and PDC) - Staff & Family Programs at 684-9040
- Duke Hospital - Meloney Williams at 668-2170
- Duke Raleigh Hospital - Joanne Echols at 954-3112
