Managing@Duke
Guide to Managing at Duke is a three-day program that prepares and equips University and DUHS managers to
meet changing strategic, operational, and work culture objectives through effective managerial practices.
Managing@Duke is an electronic memo distributed to university managers to inform, support and enable them to fulfill their supervisory roles at Duke.
Audience
The email list for Managing@Duke is comprised of senior administrators, deans, directors and managers across the university who have budgetary and personnel responsibility. The list is based on job codes rather than individuals and is updated monthly. The audience does not include managers within Duke University Health System, which maintains separate email lists for managers.Messages
Managing@Duke Memos: distributed as needed to communicate important information on specific topics about the university's operational or academic endeavors.
Approval Guidelines:
- Must be related to Duke's strategic, operational or academic endeavors.
- Must be appropriate for broad university audience (not school or department only).
- Non solicitous (e.g. please come to our event or use our service).
- Memos must have the approval of the requesting department's senior administrator, Dean, or Vice President.
- All memos submitted will be reviewed by designees of the Executive Vice President for content, style, grammar, etc. before distribution.
Manager Messages Updates: distributed biweekly on Monday afternoons to provide brief updates on topics of relevance for managers to support them communicating with their staff.
Approval Guidelines:
- Content must have the approval of the requesting department's director.
- Non solicitous (e.g. please come to our event or use our service).
- All content submitted will be reviewed by designees of the Executive Vice President for content, style, grammar, etc. before distribution.
