Direct and coordinate activities of the Health Information and Records Services departments within Duke University Health System.
Direct and coordinate activities of the Health Information and Records Services departments of Duke University Hospital, Durham Regional Hospital and Duke Raleigh Hospital including the analysis, compilation, coding, indexing and filing of patients' permanent medical records, the preparation of useful statistics and the release of health information; maximize the use of resources across medical records departments.
Ensure consistent practices across hospitals within the health system while appropriately customizing each individual hospital's department to meet the needs of its medical and administrative staff, coordinate a collaborative process for the development of policies and procedures related to medical records.
Facilitate design and implementation of software systems and analytical methods to provide accessible clinical data for purposes of peer review, performance improvement, credentialing and other institutional activities.
Ensure the preparation of all monthly, quarterly and annual statistical reports as appropriate.
Maintain interface with medical staff and other personnel to ensure effective operation of the record keeping system; design systems and methods to make data more accurate, complete and accessible.
Determine fiscal requirements and prepare budgetary recommendations; monitor, verify and reconcile expenditure of budgeted funds.
Direct and coordinate the establishment of schedules, task assignments and allocation of man hours to assure compliance with departmental commitments; plan and conduct meetings with subordinates to ensure compliance with established practices, to implement new policies and to keep employees abreast of current changes and standards.
Provide educational programs and in service training to increase efficiency of operations and supply of knowledgeable personnel.
Direct various personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, merit recommendations, promotions and vacation schedules.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
| Education: | Work requires an educational background normally equivalent to a bachelor's degree program in medical record science or medical record administration. Certification by examination as a Registered Records Administrator (RRA) by the American Medical Records Association is also required. |
| Experience: | Work requires seven years of experience in a medical record department of an inpatient facility including five years in a managerial capacity. Graduation from a recognized medical record technician program and ten years of experience in a medical record department of an inpatient facility to include six years in a supervisory or administrative capacity may be substituted for the above requirements. |
| Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification: | Certification by examination as an Accredited Records Technician (ART) by the American Medical Records Association is required. |
