Occupational Summary

Provide administration and technical support for the department/school?s Novell infrastructure. Manage a clustered environment by designing system configuration; directing system installation; and defining, documenting, and enforcing Novell system standards.

Work Performed

Oversee and lead the migration from Netware to Linux.

Establish Novell networking environment by designing system configuration; directing system installation; and defining, documenting, and enforcing Novell system standards.

Maximize Novell network performance by monitoring performance; troubleshooting network problems and outages; collaborating with Novell network architects on network optimization.

Secure Novell network system by establishing and enforcing policies; defining and monitoring access.

Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.

Accomplish information systems and organization mission by completing related results as needed.

Report network operational status by gathering, prioritizing information; managing projects.

Demand the design, implementation, security, and upgrade expertise for products such as NetWare 6.X, Novell Clustering, ZenWorks Resource Management solutions, eDirectory Designs Architecture, secure remote access, and corporate network security solutions.

Perform system back-ups, recovering lost data, and maintaining security. In addition, conduct routine audits of the network to establish standards, policies, configuration guidelines, and procedures. The Network Administrator normally enables new users and establishes their security access levels.

Prepare budget recommendations based on current infrastructure.

Provide secondary/back-up support for other System Administrators (on other servers) as needed.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

 

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training:

Bachelor?s Degree in Computer Science or related field.

 

Experience:

Work requires at least two years as Novell engineer, CNE 6.5 or better preferred; experience with large, enterprise environments. Preferred certifications: CLP, CLE9

OR ANY OTHER EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE.
