Perform technical tasks associated with the localization of tumors and the administration of radiation therapy to patients; make work assignments; review work of lower level employees.
Perform technical tasks associated with the localization of tumors; operate x-ray, cobalt, cesium and linear acceleration machines, to deliver prescribed dosage of ionizing radiation to patients undergoing therapy; observe and report changes in patient's condition to radiation therapist; record treatment administered on patient's charts. Prepare examination room; explain procedures and assist patients in preparing for examination or treatment; review set-up of equipment, patient positioning, and dosage calculations for accuracy prior to radiation treatments. Assist radiation therapists in planning treatments involving the use of dosimetry procedures and isodosing curves.
Monitor adherence to radiation safety factors on the unit. Maintain equipment in safe and satisfactory working condition; report defects or deficiencies for adjustment and repair.
Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures to improve patient care.
Maintain work area in clean and orderly condition; stock and replenish supplies as required.
Make work assignments; review work of lower level employees; assist in training new personnel.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level
Work requires satisfactory completion of a 24 month course in radiologic technology and a 12 month course in radiation therapy technology and American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) registry or registry eligibility in radiation therapy technology.
