The director?s responsibilities include identifying, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding prospects and donors with a focus on gifts and pledges of $100,000+ in support of the financial aid initiatives of Duke University.
Work with fundraising counsel on feasibility study as appropriate;
Work with vice president, executive director, and the director of communications and donor relations to develop a case statement for Duke?s financial aid initiatives;
Develop gift tables by school and unit, create management reports, and serve as a repository for financial aid information to all development staff;
With the vice president and executive director, identify and recruit a volunteer committee in support of the financial aid initiatives, develop meeting agendas, and support volunteers in cultivation and solicitation;
Coordinate the financial aid initiatives with the director of principal gifts, the director of major gifts, and the associate deans in the schools developing a portfolio of major gift prospects that will be pursued by areas and regions;
Create a ?financial aid team? of staff members representing the schools and units and through the prospect management system suggest assignments and solicitation strategies;
With appropriate University Development staff, recommend donor relations and stewardship plans for the financial aid initiatives, including printed pieces, electronic communication, and events;
Develop a portfolio of prospects with an emphasis on those capable of commitments of $100,000+;
Foster and maintain productive relationships with other University Development programs and services, the Office of Alumni Affairs, and the development staffs of the schools and units
Supervise an administrative secretary, providing daily direction and evaluation; and
Perform other duties as assigned.
| Education/Training: | Bachelor?s degree required; graduate degree preferred; |
| Experience: | Demonstrated successful experience and effectiveness in major gift fundraising, preferably in an education setting, for a minimum of five years; Significant experience working with volunteers and volunteer groups |
