Occupational Summary

Analyze information and determine reporting status regarding tax filing for payroll taxes and sales & use taxes.

Work Performed

Calculate and remit various taxes for University and Health System to the appropriate federal or state entity on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis.

Monitor revenue accounts to ensure proper taxes for Duke University payroll.

Prepare financial reports and filings for the IRS and State of North Carolina regarding various owed taxes or pending tax refunds.

Coordinate year-end preparation of various tax forms (W-2, 1099, 1042) and transmit to IRS, Social Security Administration and State of NC.

Monitor personal use of company owned vehicles and vehicle allowances given to employees. Prepare quarterly statements to individuals. Submit Summary of Earnings adjustments to payroll for inclusion with W-2's.

Reconcile general ledger accounts regarding payroll taxes withheld.

Serve as the point of contact for University and Health System regarding tax questions.

Plan and conduct meetings with subordinates to ensure compliance with established practices, implement new policies, and keep employees abreast of current changes and standards.

Direct various personnel functions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisals, promotions, transfers and vacation schedules. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training:

Work generally requires knowledge normally acquired through a bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business or a directly related field.

 

Experience:

Previous exposure and proficiency with tax filing and processes. Work requires three years progressive experience in an accounting environment.
