Occupational Summary:
The Director of Strategy and Operations will report directly to the Director
of the Nicholas Institute, and will have primary responsibility for initiating
and directing all strategic and tactical operations in support of the Nicholas
Institute's business development goals, primary oversight of the day-to-day
operations of the Institute, and primary responsibility for the strategic marketing
of the Nicholas Institute and its work product. This position will be charged
with the design and implementation of a successful development and marketing
strategy for both short term and long range operations of the Institute. The
Director of Strategy and Operations initially will serve as the Institute's
development liaison to the University, and will establish and cultivate strategic
partnerships in private, academic, and governmental sectors.
Work Performed:
Direct the overall development and promotion strategy for the Nicholas Institute:
Design both a short-term and long-term strategic development plan by identifying benchmark goals for the organization, and a clear mechanism for achievement of those goals.
Implement a tactical plan of action for promoting the Institute's mission and increasing interest and funding sources in support of the Institute's objectives.
Maintain a portfolio of major gifts prospects and donors.
Lead and coordinate a marketing campaign to establish and promote the Institute's niche in the environmental policy arena.
Identify and establish opportunities for strategic partnerships with a diverse array of organizations providing unique potential for collaboration on Institute work products.
Work directly with the Director in collaboration efforts across Schools at the University.
Initiate relationships with donors and potential Institute supporters, in order to secure immediate and future gifts to the Institute.
Serve as primary contact at the Institute for the Institute's founding donor and board members, including several CEO's of major corporations.
Evaluate the effectiveness of development activities and programs, create metrics to determine the most efficient and effective means for fund-raising and support of the Institute.
Serve as primary manager of Institute's personnel.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
EDUCATION/TRAINING
Work requires communications, analytical and organization skills generally acquired
through the completion of a masters degree, MBA preferred. Additional training
in legislative/legal/policy and environmental management processes strongly
desirable.
EXPERIENCE
At least ten years of business and/or governmental agency experience to
include positions demonstrating leadership and initiative. Experience should
highlight background in strategic development and increasing breadth or responsibilities.
OR ANY OTHER EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE.
