OTHER NANNY & AU PAIR PROGRAMS

Au Pair is a term referring to child care providers who usually come to this country from Europe or Scandinavia for a year and live in the family's home. They are usually young and are interested in improving their English language skills, as well as in caring for children.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

If you have any questions or comments about any of these programs, please contact Staff and Family Programs at sandfp@duke.edu.

**Neither nannies nor au pair programs are regulated. Nannies can be hired either independently or through an agency that specializes in matching nannies with families. Generally, nanny and au pair agencies complete background checks, and screen and train their nannies and au pairs. Ask each agency to provide information (preferably in writing) about their specific practices. Parents should ask the agencies and/or nannies themselves about their backgrounds, education, training and experience. Parents can call their local Better Business Bureau (www.bbb.org) for more information about each program.
