Duke Run/Walk Club - Durham Regional Hospital
Location: Durham Regional Hospital The Run Walk Club provides walking, run/walking, and running programs for all fitness levels. Group leaders will guide you through the 12-week program, with motivation and encouragement, while you are having fun exercising with your co-workers. This exercise program is for all fitness levels, from new exercisers to those training for 5K events. The Duke Run/Walk Club is open to all Duke faculty and staff. Participants are divided into groups based on fitness level. The Club meets every Monday and Wednesday from 5:00 - 6:00 p.m., beginning August 24th through November 11th,2009. Spend approximately 30 minutes with a LIVE FOR LIFE nurse and discover all the positive health habits you have...plus develop strategies for those you may want to change. HealthCheck measures your cholesterol, blood pressure, blood glucose (if at risk), weight, and body mass index. A computerized report provides feedback on your current health measures and health practices. A nurse will help you get started on small changes to improve your health. Great American Smoke Out - Cafeteria Lobbies of Duke North & South, Durham Regional and Duke Raleigh Hospitals
LIVE for LIFE (LFL) is sponsoring the Great American Smoke Out (GASO) - America's Day. This annual November event is in association with the American Cancer Society. LFL Staff and volunteers will provide tobacco cessation information and encouragement to Duke Employees and visitors to the hospital and university. The purpose of the event is to set aside a day to help smokers quit smoking, quit using tobacco products, for at least one day, with the hope that they will quit completely.
Not only does the event challenge people to stop using tobacco, it helps to raise awareness about the dangers of smoking and the many effective ways available to quit smoking permanently. A "Cold Turkey"*will be raffled off in celebration of the event. * Frozen Thanksgiving Turkey.
