Eat Smart Move More at Duke

About 1,200 faculty and staff participated in the program. Total weight lost was 1,175 pounds.

Read about the 2007 program and the success of its lifestyle makeover winners below. As part of the program, Duke faculty and staff entered an essay contest for a 10-week lifestyle makeover; the individual winner was Joyce Fullwood and the departmental winner was Lincoln Pharmacy.

More than 20 pounds. That's how much weight Joyce Fullwood lost in 10 weeks.

"I thought it would be really difficult," Fullwood said. "I felt a lot of pressure to succeed from my co-workers and from being in the spotlight, but that actually made it easier for me to do what I was supposed to. I needed to be held accountable. Now, this is the best I've felt in years."

Participants from the Lincoln Pharmacy lost an average of 5 pounds each during the 10-week program. One participant, Sharon McQuade lost 22 pounds.
