Week 3 Update
February 2, 2009
Week three seemed to go a lot smoother for me than the previous week. I got back on track with my food journal and managed to stay within my calorie range most days. I learned that my tendency right now is to not eat enough food, rather than to eat way too much. I think that's because I used to eat so many calories at one sitting that I got used to eating less often. Now that I'm eating healthier choices, I need to step up the amount I eat and eat a little more frequently.
I am also focusing on eating at home instead of eating out. Kelly gave me some information on how to pack a healthier lunch, which should help me a lot. I also borrowed two cookbooks from the Live for Life lending library: one for slow cookers and one from the Food Network. I have already tried one recipe from the slow cooker book, and it was really good. My main reason for not doing much cooking at home is that I am in graduate school and working full time, so I have little extra energy or time to cook meals at home. Using the slow cooker to make dinner should help me in that area because I can just throw everything in the pot in the morning, and dinner will be ready when I get home.
The things I am learning in this program seem to be helpful for losing
weight and getting healthier, but also fit into my life. I was worried
that I would work really hard during the ten weeks when I have someone
watching over my shoulder, but then I would slack off once it ended. Now I
am beginning to see that the changes I am making are not so difficult and I
can see myself doing these things well into the future.
