Week 2 Update
January 26, 2009
This week was definitely more challenging for me than the first week. Being at home did make tracking my food habits more difficult. I expect that this week will be an improvement in that area, though, because I am getting back on track with using my food journal and settling into my new routine. Having a holiday and a snow day this week just got me off to a careless start. I did, however, begin my fitness workout this week. I was amazed at how much we accomplished in just an hour of working with weights. I went back for a second workout this weekend and found that I've already gotten stronger. Yay!
I met with my nutrition counselor and learned some new tips to help me lose
weight and eat healthier. First, we discussed how 3500 calories equals a
pound of weight, so in order to lose weight, I need to be burning 3500 more
calories than I consume each week. Kelly set me up with a calorie goal so
I can get an idea of how much food I should be eating each day. She also
gave me some pointers on how to determine a serving size or certain
measurements of foods to help me eyeball and control my portion sizes. I
think this will be a useful tool. And finally, Kelly explained about the
plate method for determining a balanced, healthy meal. I had heard of this
method: half the plate should be vegetables, ¼ of the plate lean meat, and
¼ of the plate whole grains or starchy vegetables. I am starting to pay
attention to what goes into my body, as well as how I treat my body every
day. While I haven't seen much success yet on the scale, I am already
feeling better and my clothes are fitting more comfortably. I guess that
means I'm on the right track!
