Lifestyle Makeover
January 6, 2009
Started my Lifestyle Makeover today. I recently won the opportunity for this 10 week program a couple of months ago through an essay contest. Today I met with Kay for a dietary consult and with Heather for a fitness consult. Both were upbeat and encouraging so that helped.
Tipping the scales at 273 was not much fun. Nor was getting my body fat index. Just a year ago I was hovering around 254. I think the recent loss of my father and brother have had a lot to do with that 19 pound gain. I am hopeful that this will be something I can stick with. Kay is helping me set goals for my diet and Heather and I will be meeting on Thursday to set up an exercise routine. I will be meeting with both of them once a week for the next 10 weeks.
Plain and simply I feel like I have an addiction to food. I must break the cycle of dependence before I can overcome that addiction. I have tried all the diets and have not been able to stick to any of them so my confidence overall is not great. I am hoping that changing my relationship to food and exercise will help me maintain this plan long term. Hopefully with the help of Kay and Heather I can jump start this process and turn it into a lifelong commitment to better health.
My biggest concern is not the next 10 weeks. With someone looking over my shoulder and tracking my progress I feel like I will stick to it. My concern is what happens after the 10 week period. That will be the real test. What I must try to do, for now, is stop looking ahead and take it one day at a time. I can only effectively make any changes on a daily basis. Hopefully this ten week period will only serve to motivate me to stick with the program.
I'll keep you posted.
