Public Relations
Gift Shop Assistant:
The Terrace Shop hours are Monday to Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5
p.m., and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m. Volunteers in the
shop work 4-hour shifts directly with the full-time manager. They interact
with visitors, ring up sales, price merchandise and use their
creative talent to help display the many fine gifts and gardening items.
Café Assistant: The
Terrace Café is open Monday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to
4 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 4 p.m. in March through
November. Volunteers in the café have 3-hour shifts working
directly with the full-time manager or other trained volunteers.
Volunteers interact with visitors,
ring up sales, assist customers with café questions and
restock merchandise as necessary. No food preparation is required.
Garden Guild:
Create nature-themed craft items as a fundraising opportunity for
Duke Gardens. Ideas and materials are welcomed.
Classroom Assistant: Assist class participants and presenters in setting up and equipping their classroom, checking students in and confirming attendance.
Garden Ambassadors: Ambassadors work outside in the Gardens greeting visitors, answering questions and providing brochures, maps and general assistance as needed. Ambassadors also help to ensure that visitors follow Gardens rules, while ensuring that they have a pleasant experience at Sarah P. Duke Gardens. Ambassadors wear green vests that identify them to visitors. Qualifications include a friendly and outgoing personality and a positive and pleasant attitude. The ability to navigate the grounds is also necessary.
