Public Relations

Gift Shop Assistant: The Terrace Shop hours are Monday - Saturday 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. and Sundays from 12:00 until 5:00 p.m.. Volunteers in the shop work 4 hour shifts directly with the full-time Manager, interact with visitors, transact sales, price merchandise and use their creative talent to help display the many fine gifts and unique gardening items.

Café Assistant: The Terrace Café is open Monday - Saturday 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. and Sundays from 12:00 until 4:00 p.m. March – November. Volunteers in the café staff 3 hour shifts working directly with the full-time Manager or other trained volunteers. With this opportunity volunteers will interact with visitors, transact sales, assist customers with café queries and restock merchandise as necessary. No food preparation is required.

Garden Guild: Create botanical craft items as a fundraising opportunity for Duke Gardens. Ideas and materials are welcomed.

Registrar: Assist with all class and lecture registrations for the adult and children’s educational series. Proficiency in word processing and (MS) Access is necessary. Serve as the "check in" person at the classes and lectures.

Garden Ambassadors: A Volunteer Ambassador will roam the Gardens greeting visitors, answering questions, delivering information, and providing general assistance as needed. In addition, you will provide another set of eyes watching to ensure that rules are followed by visitors while helping to ensure a pleasant experience for all at the Sarah P. Duke Gardens. Ambassadors will be distinguished by an item of clothing. Ambassador Qualifications: Friendly and outgoing personality with a positive and pleasant attitude. The ability to navigate the grounds is necessary as well.
