
GUIDED PROGRAMS
Sarah P. Duke Gardens has added several guided walks to its expanding series. We hope you'll join us for one or all and get to know the Gardens more intimately. The walks are $5; free for Gardens Friends, as well as Duke students and employees. Each walk is only offered on the dates listed. Pre-registration is required. Please call 668-1707 or e-mail our registrar to reserve a spot.
Walk on the Wild Side: Join curator Stefan Bloodworth on a tour of the Blomquist Garden of Native Plants. Stefan will discuss plants in bloom, garden design, birds, regional ecology and global environmental issues affecting native ecosystems. 11 a.m.-noon on the first Thursday of every month, year-round. Meet at the Blomquist gatehouse.
Bird Walk: Enjoy an early morning stroll in the Gardens with Cynthia Fox, of Chapel Hill's Wild Bird Center. Cynthia will help you spot, identify and learn more about the birds that call this region home. Children are welcome if they are 8 years old or older. Please bring binoculars. Dates: April 7 & 28, 8-10 a.m. Meet at the Doris Duke Center.
Spring Flower Walk in the Arboretum: The Culberson Asiatic Arboretum holds many fascinating plants, displayed in beautiful and ever-changing combinations. Curator Paul Jones and horticulturist Michelle Stay Rawlins will guide you to little-known garden spaces and unique plants. March 9 and/or April 13, 10 a.m.-noon. Meet at the Doris Duke Center.
Gardens of the Doris Duke Center. Join curator Jason Holmes to see the newly redesigned Page-Rollins White Garden and hear about the innovative plant combinations that make this and the other gardens surrounding the Doris Duke Center unique. May 25 and/or June 15, 10 a.m.-noon. Meet at the Doris Duke Center.
Historic Gardens Color Walk: There is an astounding range of plants displayed across our gardens, including perennial plants, annual flowers and foliage and tropical plants. Join expert staff members Harry Jenkins, Mike Owens, Jason Holmes and Jan Watson in a casual walk through a variety of garden spaces to learn more about what is currently in bloom. Color walks will focus on the Perennial Allée, Historic Terraces, Butterfly Garden and Memorial Garden. April 5 and/or May 3, 9-11 a.m. Meet at the Doris Duke Center.
