Description:
FPDS provides nurturing and developmentally appropriate childcare/preschool services to families of all racial, cultural, religious, and economic backgrounds. We are very proud of our high quality, 5-star program and offer low child-to-teacher ratios, small group sizes, and highly qualified, loving teachers.

The Day School serves a diverse group of children in five classrooms and is centrally located in downtown Durham. We are non-sectarian and non-profit, and our small size helps to facilitate our warm and family-like environment. We serve children with special needs when possible in a main-stream classroom setting.

Enrichment Activities?
Weekly music class in each classroom. Thursday field trips for the 3 and 4 year olds to the Durham Main Library, located beside the School. Additional annual field trips to shows, the zoo, pumpkin patch, etc. Computers in the classrooms. Large, shady playground with separate infant/young toddler section. Participates in the More at Four Program.

Additional Notes:
The Day School approaches the education of young children from a "whole child" perspective by providing activities that address the physical, emotional, intellectual, and social needs of each child. We want to teach young children that what they have to say and contribute is important, and that what they do affects others. Because we feel that children learn best in a diverse group, we work towards providing classrooms that are balanced by gender, race, and socioeconomic background.
