More About the Duke Farmers Market
The Duke Farmers Market is sponsored by LIVE FOR LIFE. The market servers as a sustainable method to provide Duke faculty and staff with fresh, locally-grown produce.
The Duke Farmers Market is part of a growing interest in the farm-to-fork style of eating. Farmers from nearby farms sell seasonal fresh, tasty fruits and vegetables, and several farmers sell flowers and plants too. Vendors sell lavender and gift items, coffee beans and blue corn products, and baked goods made with whole grains. Lunch vendors offer a variety of healthy meals.
On selected weeks, Duke chefs prepare and showcase tasty fresh foods, talk about creating healthy recipes, and offer taste-tests. Other demonstrations are scheduled throughout the season.
Fruit & Veggie Themes will be highlighted each month, beginning in April with "leafy greens". Watch for cooking tips, recipes, demonstrations and more.
Enter a weekly raffle for one of two gift baskets full of items donated by our farmers and vendors. Scan your Duke ID badge or drop your ID number each week in a marked box at the market. Winners will be notified on Monday to pick up the gift basket at the next market.
Again this year, employees explore ways to "Be a Locavore!" Locavores are people who try to eat local food whenever possible. At the Duke Farmers Market, you can shake hands with the farmer, ask questions about how your food is grown, taste something new and get recipe ideas.
