Get a "Snapshot" of Your Health
A great way to get started with LIVE FOR LIFE is to participate in HealthCheck - a free, confidential health assessment. Spend 20 minutes with a LIVE FOR LIFE nurse and discover all the positive health habits you have...plus develop strategies for those you may want to change.
HealthCheck gives you the opportunity to have your cholesterol, blood sugar (for those at risk), blood pressure, height and weight measured and your body mass index calculated. A questionnaire (available through eHealth, your personal health website) will give you feedback on your current health measures and health practices.
Invite LIVE FOR LIFE to your department or building to take advantage of HealthCheck; or call for an appointment at a convenient location. For details, call 684-3136 (Option 1). Employees who work 20 hours or more and are eligible for health insurance benefits may participate annually.
Visit the Calendar of Events for scheduled HealthCheck events.
Family Health History
Although most individuals believe that knowing their family history is important to their personal health, the majority never collect, record, or share this information. To encourage this process, the Institute for Genome Sciences & Policy and LIVE FOR LIFE have teamed up to increase awareness of family history.
- A Guide to Family Health History provides you the tools to collect your family health history. Several Duke employees have shared their own health stories and why they believe knowing family health history is so important.
- A Guide for Understanding Genetics and Health provides information to help you better understand the role genetics plays in your health. There are brief descriptions about some common conditions and information about resources here at Duke.
