Employees have
30 days from the date of a qualifying life event or 60 days from their eligibility date to enroll or make
changes to their health, dental, vision, and reimbursement accounts.
Employees that have an on-the-job
accident or injury may be eligible for
benefits - including medical care and income replacement - under workers' compensation.
Each employee's needs are different — that's why Duke offers different health care plans to meet
the needs of Duke faculty, staff and their family members. Each health care plan covers
pharmacy and
mental health benefits.
Duke offers employees a choice of dental care plans, depending on the level of coverage faculty, staff
and their family members may need. Both plans cover preventive, basic, and major services, but they
differ in how they pay for covered services. Under each plan, participants can visit any licensed dentist.
While Duke's health plan provides coverage for annual eye exams, Duke is pleased to offer a nationwide vision care plan to manage the cost of eyeglasses and contact lenses, as well as eye examinations.

Reimbursement accounts help you take advantage of tax savings on eligible health care
and dependent care expenses. Duke offers you two reimbursement accounts: a
Health Care Reimbursement Account
(for your health care expenses not covered by insurance) and a
Dependent Care Reimbursement Account
(for reimbursement of day care expenses for eligible dependents).
