Diversity Award

The Diversity Award recognizes a staff or faculty member who has demonstrated, through his or her positive interactions with others, a respect and value for differing backgrounds and points of view within the University community.

The Diversity Award will be given annually to a staff or faculty member who has actively and positively promoted the concept of diversity by enhancing or contributing to the overall environment of the University through improving a cross-cultural understanding.


This recipient will have demonstrated a high regard for diversity by demonstrating one or more of the following:

  • A commitment to the spirit of diversity
  • Leadership through positive interaction between persons of different cultural backgrounds
  • Behavior which illustrates commitment to inclusion of persons within the institution who are members of traditionally under-represented groups


All full-time staff or faculty members are eligible for this nomination.

Nomination Process

Nominations may be made by staff or faculty members at any level. Nomination forms may be accessed electronically (PDF format), or picked up in the office of Staff and Family Programs, 705 Broad Street. Award recipients will be selected by a committee appointed by the Assistant Vice President for Work Environment in Human Resources. Nominations will be accepted until Friday, September 16, 2016.

Winning nominations will be bound with a letter of congratulations. Copies of all other nominations will be mailed to the nominee with a letter of congratulations.


The award will be presented by the President of the University, or a designee, at a luncheon in November at the Doris Duke Center of the Sarah P. Duke Gardens.
This award will consist of a $750 check and an engraved crystal bowl.
