1. How can I tell if my resume is still active in the Duke system?
Resumes remain active in the Duke resume database for three months after
submission. To reactivate your
resume, log on to
your online resume and press the "Submit Resume" button again. You will receive
a confirmation screen that relays the message: "Thank you for using Duke
University's Applicant Website." Please follow this procedure every three months
to ensure that your resume remains active in the system.
2. I have registered as a New User on the
Applicant Home Page, but I haven't yet received an email with my password. What should I do?
Passwords usually arrive in your email account within a minute or two. If you have not received a password email, it is possible that you mistyped your email address when registering. Please try registering as a
New User again. You can use the same email address, but you will be required to choose a new User ID.
3. I receive a "log in failed" message when I try to access my resume online. What should I do?
Please visit the
Forgot Your Password page to request a new password. Your new password should arrive in your email account within a minute or two. If you do not receive a new password, then the User ID that you entered might be incorrect. If this is the case, or if you have forgotten your User ID, you might want to try entering your email address on the Forgot Your Password page (for the sake of simplicity, we suggest that applicants use their email address as their User ID when they register on the
New User page). If you still do not receive an email with a new password, please register as a New User again and resubmit your resume. You can use the same email address, but you will be required to choose a new User ID.
4. How do I know if a job at Duke is still open?
Any position that appears on the
Job Postings Web Site
is still open.
5. I'm applying for a job at Duke. Do I need to talk with a recruiter?
Duke receives hundreds of new resumes every
week from individuals seeking employment. Unfortunately, recruiters are unable to meet
personally with individual candidates. However, as recruiters search our online
resume database, resumes will match those positions for which you possess the
qualifications. Recruiters review resumes and
make referrals to the department. The departments determine whom they will
interview and contact candidates directly.
6. How do I change my mailing address?
If you have a NetID, you can change your directory listing at
Online@Duke. If you don't have a NetID, you can
request one through the Office of Information Technology (OIT). If you are unsure whether you have one or not, please see
NetID Help. Otherwise,
please submit a Personal Data Change Form to the Human Resource Information Center at
705 Broad Street (fax: 668-0386). Your new address change will also be updated for your health and/or dental plan and your reimbursement account(s). To update any other benefit programs (e,g,
403(b) retirement plan, life insurance, disability, etc.), please use the
Contact Information to notify the benefit vendor directly.
7. How do I add/remove my spouse or children to my health care coverage?
If you experience a qualifying life event - such as a marriage, divorce, or the birth of a child - you may make changes to your health care, dental and reimbursement account options within 30 days of the event. Any change you make must be consistent with your qualifying event. For example, if you marry you may add your new spouse to your Health Care Plan, but you may not enroll in the Dental Plan if you had not been previously participating. For more information, please see our
Life Events section.
8. If I leave Duke, what happens to my health/dental insurance?
Under the federal law called COBRA, you may continue your existing health and/or dental insurance for up to 18 months. You will be responsible for the full premium payment plus a 2% service charge. If you fail to pay the premiums, your COBRA coverage will be canceled with no option to reinstate. If you become covered under another employer's plan or Medicare, your COBRA coverage will terminate. A notice describing COBRA continuation rights is sent to employees who are leaving Duke. If you do not receive this continuation notice or have questions, contact the HRIC at 684-5600.
9. I have enrolled in a health/dental plan, but I haven't received the insurance cards yet. What should I do?
Please contact your health/dental vendor directly to request a new card. Make sure to double-check your listed address with your vendor when you call. For a list of vendor telephone numbers, please see our
Contact Information.
10. If my child is graduating from college, will this affect his/her eligibility for benefits as a dependent?
When your child graduates, you will need to consider how your benefits - including health & dental insurance, reimbursement accounts, and life insurance - will be affected. For a guide on how to proceed, please see
Life Events: Your Child Is Graduating.
