  3. Jason Howard Says:

I appreciate everyone who has taken the time to answer questions when I am trying to resolve a situation or find out how it arose in the first place, especially areas such as Payroll, Human Resources, and Visa Services. These are areas that we typically call when we have a problem we need/expect them to fix, but rarely do we call just to offer them a thank you.

  4. Marsha Green Says:

I appreciate the team in HR office of communication for their great sense of humor.

  5. Ben Riseling Says:

I really appreciate Chris Collins and Sean Dilda in OIT. All year long they’ve responded to outage after outage with seemingly Duke’s entire web infrastructure on their loan backs. This week’s outage, ironically, came when Chris was home with a back that had given out on him yet he still responded to the outages. You guys are the shizizzle.

  6. Monica Pallett & Karen Riches Says:

Greg Whitaker, our web Guru in HR Communications, is just the best. He always responds immediately and posts our web stuff on the same day - every time. He doesn’t just post material, he creates interesting layouts, user-friendly interfaces and brings out the people behind the story. Thanks, Greg - we appreciate you!

  7. Jill Jenkins Says:

I appreciate Jasmine Murphy for all her help with this year’s Health System Work Culture Survey (WCS).

Every year, the Duke Unversity Health System uses the Work Culture Survey to evaluate its progress toward their ideal work culture. This survey, which is rolled out to every staff member, is a critical factor for shaping workplace initiatives for the next year. Jasmine’s diligent translations of the WCS poster and other materials into Spanish has made a difference in the quality of our communications this year. Her work has enabled us to reach a broader audience, which is vital for increasing partipation rates. Although translating materials into Spanish is not part of Jasmine’s responsibilities, she has gone the extra mile to make sure that the wording of our materials is not only engaging and accurate, but beautiful. She truly cares about our Spanish-speaking colleagues, and her delight in the language “translates” into her efforts.

    Many thanks to you, Jasmine!

  15. Gail Pruett Says:

I appreciate all of the staff on Williams Ward and the ECT (Electro-Convulsive Therapy) Unit in Duke South. This includes the HUCs, NCAs, Administrative Assistants, RNs, MDs, SW, Recreational Therapists and CODs. People with mental illness are often ignored or mistreated by the public. And, by association, the staff members that work with these people with behavioral and emotional disorders may be forgotten and undervalued. But, everyone on Williams and on the ECT Unit deserves recognition for their empathy, team spirit, knowledge and expertise in working with these patients who enter our system in crisis and depression; often alone and isolated. Whether inpatient or outpatient, these patients often have needs that only skilled, compassionate people can address. The ECT and Williams teams help the patients feel welcomed; ease their fears; and, provide treatment in short periods of time. I wish everyone could get acquainted with these wonderful teams; and, appreciate their strong gifts and talents.

  16. Gail Pruett Says:

They are thoroughly engaged in running this unit and demonstrate what teamwork is and love of their job everyday they come to work. They are dedicated to our patients, to each other and to doing their best everyday. I thank them for what they do for our patients and our hospital everyday.

  28. Ellen Tvrdy Says:

I appreciate the fabulous work our Cord Blood Couriers, Wayne Temple and Rodd Mangum, do every day. Without them transporting our collections safely from the sites to the lab we would not be able to make these units available to patients. Regardless of the weather or the traffic, we know we can count on Wayne and Rodd. I appreciate that we have two great “kooler men” on our team.

  29. Ellen Tvrdy Says:

I appreciate the team of professionals at Duke Procurement who enable the Carolinas Cord Blood Bank team to complete our mission by having the right goods and services in place when we need them. Their “can do” approach is always appreciated.

  30. Ellen Tvrdy Says:

I appreciate the Duke Accounts Payable team for keeping our accounts up to date. Nothing ruins a vendor relationship like a late payment and the professionals at AP ensure the CCBB does not have that problem with our vendors. I appreciate their timely actions and pleasant interface.

  31. Ellen Tvrdy Says:

I appreciate Marcia Robinson for the terrific job she does recruiting qualified professionals when the CCBB has job vacancies. Marcia is always professional and timely when we have openings and she never fails to follow up and close the loop on actions or questions.

  32. Yvette Merritt Says:

Thank you to Carol Holder, Staff Assistant in the ABMT Clinic. She is the best person to work with in the whole United States of America. If there is something that anyone needs, whether it be a phone number, medical information on a patient, cold medicine, ibuprofen or tools to fix something, she has it and if she doesn’t have it TRUST AND BELIEVE, she knows where to find it. She brings joy to the whole clinic. Carol, Thanks for all you do!!!

  33. Ellen Tvrdy Says:

I appreciate the amazing work that Lettie Moore does for the Cord Blood Bank. She takes responsibility for responding to requests for confirmatory typing and shipment of units for 4 banks. She effectively and efficiently interacts with many different organizations and carefully schedules shipments to ensure every patient receiving a cord from one of our banks has the unit with the correct paperwork where they need it, when they need it.

  34. Thomas Pafford Says:

There are so many people to appreciate–that’s one reason I like working here. I get to rub elbows with some great people. In particular, I’d like to appreciate Jose and Eduarda Resendes, the husband & wife team of Environmental Services workers who clean the Anesthesiology Suite in Duke North HAFS Building. They have taken us to heart, and they show it by how they care for our office space, and how attentive they are to things that are out of place. In addition, Mr. and Mrs. Resendes talk to us. They’re friendly, in just the right amounts. They respect others, which inspires me to show respect and care to others. They are a great gift to us! Thanks, Environmental Services, for assigning them to us. Thank you, Jose and Eduarda, for all you do for us and for being who you are: Just great folks.

  35. Ellen Tvrdy Says:

I appreciate the CCBB supply coordinator, Gayle Serls. Gayle manages the ordering of supplies for our nine collection sites - with 3 more about to open - and for our very busy processing lab. She keeps our supply levels even and is always looking to get the best price and service to ensure we do not run out of supplies. Thanks Gayle!

  36. Ellen Tvrdy Says:

I appreciate all of the Carolinas Cord Blood Bank collection specialists and nurses. They are a caring and dedicated team who make sure that qualified pregnant moms have the opportunity to donate their baby’s cord blood to the public cord blood bank here at Duke. These dedicated professionals ensure that we make as many potentially lifesaving units available as possible. I appreciate their vital role in delivering this very precious gift of hope.

  37. Stephanie Herweyer Says:

I’d like to let everyone know how much I appreciate the teamwork of Corporate Payroll. When I first came to work for Athletics in August 2007, there was fair amount of transition in the department, which would soon become a tremendous amount of change and reorganization. During that time, I had very little guidance in my department on all issues ‘payroll,’ and I relied heavily on the entire staff at Duke Corporate Payroll to answer my questions and guide me through all the unknowns. In particular, Gwen Hall-DiFabio was always there to answer questions in person, before, during, and after payroll training classes, over the phone, and via e-mail. I would like to let them know how much I appreciate everyone’s efforts at making my job easier then and now. Keep up the good work!

  38. Christine Krieman Says:

I appreciate Leslie Routh for her efforts on behalf of the Duke University Health Systems Work Culture Survey, Financial Fitness Week, and Duke Appreciation.

Leslie provided each of these projects with increased visibility through the use of DukeTV, DUH’s “closed circuit TV”. She took our text and graphics for each project, then designed eye-catching and engaging slides for DukeTV–all in a timely manner. DukeTV enables us to communicate information about strategic projects through a method targeted to our DUH colleagues. Because DUH has a high concentration of Duke employees, reaching that population through creative messaging is an important part of all our strategies.

    Many thanks to you, Leslie.

I appreciate Karen Goddard, Corporate Risk Management. Karen has been a mentor and a above and beyond trainer. Karen is always willing to go the extra mile.
