Program Description

What Is the Get Moving Challenge?

The Get Moving Challenge is a 10-week fitness competition open to Duke staff and faculty that allows participants to compete by tracking pedometer steps, weight loss and/or exercise minutes as an individual or as part of a team.

The Get Moving Challenge is designed for participants of all fitness levels. We'll provide you with the tools and resources to easily set goals, track your progress and motivate a team.

How It Works

  1. On Your Mark!
It's easy - just click here to register. You can choose to be a team captain, join an existing team or find team members on with our "search teams" option. Teams will consist of five to 11 members, including the team captain. Captains will lead teams in the 10-week challenge.
  2. Get Set!
Pedometers will be distributed to the first 2,000 registered participants. If you don't receive a free pedometer, you can purchase one through LIVE FOR LIFE for $3 dollars or 30 LIVE FOR LIFE Dollars. Teams may choose to compete in one, two or all three competition categories. Results will be based on average weight loss, average minutes of total exercise and average total pedometer steps per team member. Each category will have its own standings.
  3. Get Moving!
Participants will record their daily progress online. Team standings can be viewed online at any time. At the end of each two-week round, the standings will be announced in an email to all participants and posted online. To protect privacy, if you choose to participate in the weight loss category, no other participant will ever be able to see your individual weight.
  4. The Reward
Besides the reward of good health, the fun of challenging yourself and your team members, LIVE FOR LIFE will offer all participants that track progress at least eight out of 10 weeks a Get Moving Challenge T-shirt. The top teams in each category will receive a trophy to display for bragging rights. Trophy winners will be announced at the 2012 Start! Walk the first week of April.
